Duties:

- Design and update procedures to promote maximum efficiency/accuracy of testing and reporting.
- Stock and monitor expenses and usage of department supplies inventory.
- Performs tests according to department policy within designed time frames observed by supervisor.
- Adhere to quality control policies, document and maintain Quality Control and Quality Assurance records demonstrating proficiency testing as performed.
- Adhere to established policy and procedure whenever test systems are not within established acceptable level of performance.
- Exercise all laboratory safety precautions and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
- Produces and interprets accurate and precise test results.
- Reports test results via the laboratory computer or other designated mechanism.
- Performs instrument maintenance.
- Performs instrument/method troubleshooting.
- Performs quality control, performs proficiency testing.
- Communicates pertinent section information/issues to supervisor, manager or other appropriate individual.
- Must be familiar with Corporate Compliance Program Corporate Policies.

- Receive and process Cytogenetic / FISH specimens according to department protocols.
- Perform analysis of Cytogenetic / FISH data.
- Assist the Cytogenetic / FISH manager and director with administrative functions such as ordering supplies and maintaining inventory.
- Represent the Cytogenetic / FISH department in various committees or meetings when necessary.
- Assist in strategic development of the laboratory services.
- Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures that guide and support Laboratory Services.
- Assist and help develop, implement and maintain effective department QA programs and monitors.
- Work with other departments within PathGroup and subsidiaries.

GROSSING ASSISTANT - TEMPORARY POSITION

Duties:

- Accession all tissue specimens and make cassettes.
- Assist pathologist and/or PA in cutting room when needed.
- Properly hang tissue on the processors located at the Access Road Lab.
- Responsible for determining/selecting specimens for grossing.
- Complete flow sheets.
- Photograph specimens (Polaroid and 35 mm).
- Prepare tissue to be sent out for further testing such as Lymphoma Phenotyping, Quantitative Iron studies, etc.
- Keep quality control charts on equipment in the accession and cutting room.
- Prepare routine solutions, maintain an inventory of supplies and store in proper location and keep a clean work area.
- Responsible for proper disposal and handling of hazardous waste to include xylene recycling (i.e. xylene, reagent alcohol, formaldehyde) and dispose of specimens according to procedures.
- Review procedure manuals and stay current with procedural changes that have occurred.
- Must be familiar with Corporate Compliance Program and Corporate Policies.
- All other assigned duties.

GYN SPECIMEN PROCESSOR

- Stains and coverslips slides.
- Loads slides onto and removes them from the Imagers.
- Distributes slides to cytotechnologists, pathologists and outside facilities.
- Files slides and maintains slide files.
- Retrieves needed slides from slide files.
- Retrieves needed gyn specimens for additional testing
- Performs non-gyn specimen processing as directed.
- Performs required lab maintenance and cleaning.
- Maintains lab equipment and supply inventory.

- Provides responsive first-level help desk support to clinical lab, PG staff and EMR clients.
- Receives, prioritizes, documents and resolves end-user requests, with respect to the LIS system.
- Test fixes to ensure problem has been adequately resolved.
- Build and update tests including Custom Profiles in Soft whenever assigned.
- Assist in the maintaining, supporting and maximizing the functionality of existing systems and applications.
- Identify and resolve system and applications issues.
- Provide input and direction for the application in support of the business goals.
- Act as a liaison with the software vendor or electronic medical record (EMR) vendor or EMR client to maximize the functionality of the application and to resolve issues in a timely manner whenever required.
- Provide technical leadership and support to all lab personnel.
- Review, analyze and suggest application changes for effectiveness and efficiency and suggest strategiesfor maximizing functionality of the LIS application.
- Work closely with the IT department to ensure that IT polices and procedures are followed.
- Assist in the LIS user setup and application training.
- Assist in the maintaining of all dictionaries and setting up application tables in the LIS.
- Help protect electronic assets of clinical lab.
- Must be familiar with Corporate Compliance Program and Corporate Policies.

- Medical terminology (preferably pathology), accurate typing skills (60-70 words per minute) and professional phone skills required.
- Six months to one year of prior job-related experience is required.
- Good phone and communication (written and verbal) skills are required.
