Ben W. Davis, M.D.

Davis-JRS_0036HDr. Ben Davis has been at the helm of PathGroup since its inception in 1996.  He joined Associated Pathologists in 1986 and prior to that was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology, Vanderbilt University Medical Center and School of Medicine following a Residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Vanderbilt.  Dr. Davis received his Undergraduate Degree in Molecular Biology at Vanderbilt University and his Medical Degree at the University of Arkansas School of Medicine.  Dr. Davis previously served as Chairman of the HCA Healthcare Network Institutional Review Board from 1989 to 2008 as well as Group Leader of the Experimental Pathology Unit at the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research, Molecular Biology Branch in Bern Switzerland from 1981 to 1983.

Dr. Hessler joined PathGroup in 2006 and provides executive leadership in our Chattanooga, Tenn., lab serving as Medical Director.  He currently serves as Chief of Pathology at Erlanger Health System and participates in several hospital committees. Dr. Hessler is Board Certified in Anatomic Pathology and Neuropathology with fellowship training from the University of Virginia and Thomas Jefferson University, where he also completed his residency.  Dr. Hessler earned his medical degree from the University of Vermont and his bachelor’s degree in biology from the University of Pennsylvania.  An active member of the American Association of Neuropathologists and Fellow member of the College of American Pathologists, Dr. Hessler has presented at numerous clinical conferences and has contributed to multiple publications and peer reviewed journals.

Dr. Chandra joined PathGroup in 2011 as Associate Medical Director of Molecular Pathology and now currently serves as Senior Vice President and Chief Genomics Officer at PathGroup. Dr. Chandra holds board certifications in anatomic and clinical pathology, hematopathology and molecular genetic pathology. He completed his AP/CP training and fellowships in hematopathology, oncologic pathology and molecular pathology at NYU Langone Medical Center and the University of Texas-MD Anderson Cancer Center, respectively. While at MD Anderson, he served as Chief Fellow and received numerous awards for his research in acute myeloid leukemia. He has presented numerous abstracts and platform presentations at various pathology meetings and has published peer-reviewed articles and book chapters. Dr. Chandra is a member of the American Society of Clinical Pathology, College of American Pathologists, and Association of Molecular Pathology where he also serves in a leadership capacity to the Economic Affairs Committee as Vice-Chair of Coverage. Dr. Chandra is a recognized medical consultant in molecular pathology and personalized medicine and is considered a national thought leader in Precision Medicine and Cancer Genomics.

Marigny B. Roberts, MD

Roberts 4A board-certified pathologist in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and Cytopathology, Dr. Roberts completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and fellowship training in Cytopathology at the Virginia Commonwealth University, Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Roberts earned her Medical Degree from the Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center and her Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Roberts focused areas of expertise and interest are in the gynecologic cytology and fine needle aspirations. She is an active member of the American Society of Cytopathology and the College of American Pathologists and is the current President of the Virginia Society for Pathology.

Dr. Welch joined PathGroup in 2006.  A native of Nashville, Dr. Welch is a graduate of the College Scholars and Honors Programs at the University of Tennessee, earning a combined degree in Philosophy/Bioethics and Biology, and graduating as the 1996 valedictorian of the College of Arts and Sciences.   He earned his medical degree from The Vanderbilt School of Medicine in 2000, continuing there to complete his Clinical and Anatomic Pathology residency.  After a year as Chief Resident, he completed Surgical Pathology Fellowship with emphasis on Breast Pathology, as well as a Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary Pathology Fellowship.  Dr. Welch has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals including the American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Modern Pathology and Archives of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine and has been a platform presenter at the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathologists annual meeting. He is a Fellow member of the College of American Pathologists and the Roger C. Haggitt Gastrointestinal Pathology Society.

Kathryn Knight, MD

PAthGroup 020518 JRS_0161LDr. Kathryn T. Knight is currently Senior Advisor for PathGroup, having previously served as Medical Director, Cytopathology and Women’s Health. Board-certified in anatomic and clinical pathology as well as cytopathology, Dr. Knight received her medical degree from the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and performed her residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Emory University School of Medicine. Dr. Knight subsequently completed a Fellowship in Surgical Pathology at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Dallas. Prior to merging her practice with PathGroup in 2011, Dr. Knight served as Laboratory Medical Director at Hamilton Medical Center in Dalton, Georgia, and President of Associates in Laboratory Medicine. Dr. Knight has been actively involved with the College of American Pathologists, where she currently serves as Speaker of the House of Delegates and as an ex officio member of the Board of Governors.
